Hawaii Five-0 3x03: Lana I Ka Moana

Danny and McGarrett are enjoying a leisurely afternoon of deep sea fishing. Beers are consumed, balls are busted, and Danno catches his first ever tuna. Good times have been had by all. Then they spot a guy in a dinghy out in the middle of the ocean. When they get him aboard, he pulls a gun on them, forces them into the water, shoots the dinghy, and steals their boat. The good times are over.

He wanted tuna. Instead, he caught danger! Danny Williams is 'Danno' in: Fish Story

Fear not, for McGarrett slows the leak with a bit of hose from the motor, then jumps into the water and starts to tow the dinghy back to land. He's in the water for about twenty seconds before a big-ass tiger shark starts circling and he has to get back in the dinghy. Now, they are well and truly screwed... until they spot a yacht on the horizon. Some quick paddling gets them there, but no one's on board except a dead guy, and the engines won't start. So, suddenly they're in Dead Calm, except Scott Caan's not quite as pretty as Nicole Kidman. Luckily, before anyone gets shot with a spear gun or has to have sex with Billy Zane, the Coast Guard shows up to arrest them.

"Huzzah! We're saved!"

They're cut loose after a quick call to headquarters, and back on land, the investigation begins. It's fairly standard stuff: The dead guy's husband was banging the killer behind his back, and had him off her hubby so she wouldn't get cleaned out in their impending divorce. Kono catches the guy, Danny and McGarrett get him to flip on his lady, and dead guy's baby sister shoots her when she finds out what she did.

Cynthia Watros should probably try to stay on the mainland.
The whole episode moved really, really fast. I'm starting to think that maybe 40 minutes isn't enough time to fully contain an episode of Hawaii Five-0. McGarrett was out towing the dinghy for literally fifteen seconds before the shark showed up. Heck, the investigation was half over before they even got back to land.

What I Liked
-So much good banter between Steve and Danny. This show is at its best when those two are busting each other's balls.
-Max gives Danny some unguent for his sunburn. The show needs more Max, and has ever since he killed that crazy guy with a chunk of glass last season.
-Cynthia Watros gets shot. It's too bad that she didn't have any scenes with Daniel Dae Kim, but I don't think Libby and Jin spent all that much time together on Lost.

Best fishing trip ever!

What I Hated
-Cookie-cutter motives for the murder. I'm not sure if they've actually done it before on this show, but having your lover kill your spouse is one of the most cliche murder plots there is.
-Everything moved really fast. This is a quick, exciting show, but that doesn't mean they can't take a minute or two to allow things to develop.

Final Thoughts
Honestly, I don't think this episode even really needed the murder case. If McGarrett and Danny had been attacked by pirates or something like that, and spent most of the episode bantering in the dinghy, it would've been much better. It was by no means bad, but I think it's good to mix it up a bit and get away from the policing angle to
just spend some time getting to know the characters
